Jasprit Bumrah made history on Sunday during the fourth Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, becoming the fastest Indian bowler to reach 200 Test wickets. He achieved this milestone in just 44 matches, surpassing Kapil Dev’s previous record of 50 matches. Bumrah dismissed Travis Head for his 200th wicket, joining an elite group of bowlers who reached the mark in 44 Tests, including Pat Cummins and Kagiso Rabada.
Bumrah’s remarkable achievement came after a stellar performance in the first innings, where he took four wickets for 99 runs. His scalps included prominent Australian batsmen Usman Khawaja, Mitchell Marsh, and Nathan Lyon. In the second innings, he claimed his milestone wicket of Head after previously dismissing Sam Konstas.
With a phenomenal bowling average of 19.56, Bumrah is now the first bowler in history to achieve 200 wickets with a sub-20 average, surpassing legends like Malcolm Marshall and Joel Garner. He reached this landmark with his 8,484th delivery, making him the fourth-fastest bowler globally to achieve this feat.
Bumrah’s exceptional performance in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy has seen him take 28 wickets in the series, setting a new record for the most wickets by an Indian pacer in a Test series in Australia.
